The grandmother’s traditional skirt is made from blue and black dyed linen with a central, white batik section. The apron is plain black. The blouse is black with blue and red embroidered stripes and borders. The young bride has chosen a stylish pink and purple outfit, dripping with plastic beads and inlaid with silver tinsel. An outfit like this would cost around RMB800 (equivalent to over USD100). Notice the mauve and sky-blue anklets to match the skirt.
Miss Yang was embarrassed to wear the traditional white linen skirt and plain blouse with “drab” colouring (left). She refused to put on leg wrappings, preferring to show off her leather high-heeled boots. Her favourite suit consists of a bright, pink, green and blue skirt with an intricately embroidered white and green apron, and a stylish red jacket sporting a lavish array of white beads (right). Notice the flared sleeves, in vogue at the moment. |
